James Bond Casino Royale

Bob Jones received a phone call asking if we could provide some cranes for the new James Bond film. Great, where do you require them? The Bahamas, we’ll have to see if any drivers or erectors want to do it.

Two Comansa 5211 cranes were shipped in containers to the Bahamas and the adventure began

The cranes were erected using a mobile provided by Lee Lifting Services who have done most of the film work since I met Lee Whitmore on the set of Superman III at pinewood where I was flying Christopher Reeves around on an old Munster Crane and Lee was flying a hot air balloon basket with Roger Moore in it on the set of Octopussy.

The two tower cranes had to build the steel frame used in the action sequences and general lifting around the site. Filming took about three weeks and then the steel frame dismantled and the site cleared.

The cranes were dismantled and shipped back to the U.K. in containers. Both Cranes are still in our fleet working around London and still have the actor’s first position marks on their jibs.

The entire contract was about six months and all the City Lifting staff involved got their names in the films credits.
